Communication Students Hold Memorable Farewell, Sharing Wisdom for Personal and Academic Success

The Bunda Communication and Journalism Students Affairs (BCOJSA) on Sunday hosted a vibrant farewell ceremony for final-year Communication and Journalism students outside Chilowa Cafeteria, LUANAR Bunda Campus. Organized and facilitated by the BCOJSA executives, including President Benjamin Tholiwa and Vice President Etta Chikuse, the event brought together students from first to fourth year to celebrate, reflect, and share academic insights as the finalists prepare to leave campus ahead of their expected graduation in May next year. As both a class representative and finalist, I joined fellow final-year students in sharing advice aimed at strengthening academic excellence and personal growth. Lingstone Nsema, a final-year student, presented fresh maize from his field to the four class representatives—Mary Mwambila, Butwa Mwakalagho, Milcah Chimoyo, and Trevor Khwalala—as a gesture of gratitude for what he described as their “dedicated leadership and commitment” throughout their academic journey. CDEDI REGRETS SETTING ILLOVO SUGAR UNDER COURT INJUNCTION

  C entre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) regrets its prior action on pinning down Illovo sugar (Malawi) public limited company against judicial injunction in 2023, as they have returned again seeking the judiciary to remove the imposed measures against the Illovo sugar Malawi plc which was granted on 23 August. In June 2023 CDEDI worked tirelessly summoning the Judiciary to take an action on the raised matters concerning high prices of sugar, in the press briefing which was held in Lilongwe last year CDEDI claimed that the prices of sugar were too high for the Malawian to afford it, and the CDEDI Executive Director Slyvester Nawima said he wrote the Public Accounts Committee(PAC) of Parliament and the Parliamentary Committee on Trade and Industry to immediately conduct a public interrogation on sugar production and pricing. In the dawn everything started very well as every morning expected to yield great products and bring joy, development and unity among individuals, not knowing that a dusk will bring a nightmare. MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE SETS CROP FARM GATE PRICES: MALAWI

  M alawi Government through the Ministry of Agriculture has released 2023/2024 minimum farm gate price for staple grain and other selected crops on 5 April 2024 through a press statement signed by the Ministry’s Principal secretary. Principal secretary, Dickxie Kampani acknowledged in his statement that the new prices are of immediate effect and that people will be purchasing maize at K600 per kilograms from last year’s price of K500 per kilograms, pure beans at K1200 per kilograms from last year’s K700 per kilograms, mixed beans at K900 per kilograms from last year’s K600per kilograms, unpolished rice at K650 per kilograms from previous year’s K500 per kilograms and other national relayed crops with also some great increment of prices per each quantity.
